20+ years in critical infrastructure

Critical infrastructure that does not fail

N1Solutions is a team of virtualisation, systems, database and application platform engineers. We design, deploy, migrate and tune production environments - from VMware clusters, through Oracle, SQL Server, Tomcat, JBoss and WebLogic, to Kubernetes with a full CI/CD pipeline and infrastructure described as code.

  • Migrations with no downtime window

Expertise

We start where standard support ends

Virtualisation, clusters, server systems, databases, middleware and container platforms are the foundation a company works on every day. When it stops, the whole organisation stops with it. That is why only engineers with more than 20 years of experience work on it - each a specialist in their own technology.

Outsourced administration

We take over production environments entirely, or support your administrators wherever deep specialisation is needed.

  • Ongoing server and cluster administration
  • Maintenance windows, updates, patching
  • On-call duty and 24/7 support

Virtualisation and HA clusters

We design and maintain virtualisation platforms and high availability clusters.

  • VMware vSphere, vSAN, vCenter, NSX
  • Hyper-V and Failover Cluster
  • Linux clusters: Pacemaker, Corosync

Windows and Linux server systems

We build and maintain the system layer underneath business-critical applications.

  • Windows Server, Active Directory, GPO
  • RHEL, SUSE, Debian, Ubuntu Server
  • Hardening and policy compliance

Databases

The full database lifecycle: architecture design, deployment, migration across versions and platforms, replication and production maintenance.

  • Oracle Database, RAC, Data Guard
  • Microsoft SQL Server, AlwaysOn
  • PostgreSQL, replication and HA
  • NoSQL: MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch

Middleware and application servers

The layer your application actually runs on. We deploy, cluster and tune application servers.

  • Apache Tomcat - configuration and clustering
  • JBoss EAP and WildFly - domains, clusters
  • Oracle WebLogic - domains, Node Manager, JMS
  • JVM and GC tuning, heap and thread dump analysis

Performance tuning

We look for the cause, not the symptom. We analyse execution plans, instance configuration, the storage layer and host resources.

  • Query and index tuning
  • Instance and JVM parameter optimisation
  • I/O, CPU and memory bottleneck analysis

Kubernetes and CI/CD

We run the whole chain - from building the cluster, through the CI/CD pipeline, to live production systems with autoscaling and observability.

  • Kubernetes, Tanzu, OpenShift, Rancher
  • Pipelines: GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions
  • GitOps: Argo CD, Flux, Helm, Kustomize
  • Ingress, secrets, network policies, HPA

Automation and infrastructure as code

Configuration written as code instead of living in administrators’ heads: repeatable, versioned and reproducible in minutes.

  • Ansible - roles, playbooks, AWX/Tower
  • Terraform - modules, state, provisioning
  • Environment standardisation and rebuilds
  • Automated maintenance windows and patching

Public and hybrid cloud

We design cloud and hybrid environments with a clear cost rationale, and move existing systems into them.

  • AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud
  • Google Anthos and hybrid scenarios
  • Networking, identity and cost control

Migration and modernisation

We move production systems across versions, platforms and locations. Every migration has a test plan and a rollback scenario.

  • Database and application server migrations
  • On-premise ↔ cloud transitions
  • vSphere, operating system and database engine upgrades

Backup and disaster recovery

Backups that actually restore. We test the restore, not just the backup job.

  • 3-2-1 strategy and offsite copies
  • Restore tests and reporting
  • Business continuity plans, RTO and RPO

Monitoring and observability

We know about the problem before your users do. Metrics, logs and alerts joined into one picture of the environment.

  • Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana
  • Central logging and event correlation
  • Thresholds, SLOs and performance reports

Method

The same rigour at every layer of the stack

Whether we are building a vSphere cluster, migrating an Oracle database, tuning WebLogic or standing up a CI/CD pipeline, we follow the same six-stage cycle: audit and design first, then deployment with testing, and maintenance at the end. Every stage ends with documentation, and every production change has a rollback scenario prepared in advance.

Infrastructure and clusters

  1. Environment audit

Hosts, storage, network, licensing and inter-system dependencies.

  2. Architecture design

Sizing, failure domains, addressing and the high availability model.

  3. Environment build

Hosts, cluster, storage, network and system hardening.

  4. Resilience testing

Failover, performance and restore from backup.

  5. Cutover

Migration in a maintenance window with a rollback scenario.

  6. Maintenance

    Monitoring, patching and capacity reviews.

Databases

  1. Instance audit

Versions, load, execution plans and bottlenecks.

  2. High availability

  3. Build from scratch

A test environment built from code alone.

  4. Production adoption

Existing systems brought under code, step by step.

Rehearsed environment rebuilds after an outage.

Typical engagements

What people come to us with

A short overview of the work that comes up most often. If any of it sounds familiar, describe your situation in the form - we will come back with specific technical questions.

Oracle migration with no downtime

We move Oracle databases across servers, versions and data centres using Data Guard and logical replication. The cutover itself takes minutes, and the rollback scenario is ready before we start.

Oracle version upgrade

An engine upgrade rehearsed beforehand on a copy of the production environment, with execution plans verified and performance compared before and after the change.

WebLogic performance tuning

We diagnose hanging domains and rising response times: thread and heap dump analysis, garbage collector selection, thread pools and database connection pools.

VMware environment handover

Cluster inventory, handover of credentials, verification of backups and licensing, documentation gaps filled and monitoring switched on. Usually two to four weeks, with no downtime.

Outsourced PostgreSQL administration

Ongoing care of your instances: replication and high availability, query tuning, backups with restore testing, and monitoring with alerting.

Cloud migration

We move systems to AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud - entirely or in a hybrid model. Target costs are calculated before the decision, not after it.

Migration to OpenShift

Containerising existing applications and running them on OpenShift or another Kubernetes distribution, together with networking, storage and the deployment pipeline.

Kubernetes with CI/CD from scratch

Building the cluster with networking, storage, ingress and security policies, plus a pipeline that ships the application to production with a single merge.

Why N1Solutions

Engineers, not middlemen

We work in stable teams - your environment is handled by the people who designed it, or who took it over and documented it from scratch. Every change is documented, every recommendation is backed by numbers, and every production deployment has a rollback plan prepared beforehand.

  • Guaranteed SLA

Response and resolution times written into the contract, with engineering on-call outside business hours.

  • The full stack in one team

From hypervisor, through operating system and middleware, to database and CI/CD pipeline. We never send you to another vendor.

  • Everything written as code

Configuration in Ansible and Terraform instead of tribal knowledge. You can rebuild the environment without us.

  • Measurable results

Before and after: response times, load, backup windows. We show the improvement on a chart, not in prose.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you run an end-user helpdesk?

No. We work on the server layer: virtualisation, operating systems, databases, middleware and container platforms. If you need end-user support, we are happy to recommend a trusted partner.

Do you work with companies that already have an IT department?

Yes, that is our most common model. We step in where deep specialisation is needed, or provide on-call cover and holiday relief for in-house administrators.

Does a migration require production downtime?

In most scenarios, no. We use replication, Data Guard, AlwaysOn and vMotion so that the cutover takes minutes. Every migration plan includes a rollback scenario and is tested outside production.

How quickly do you respond to an outage?

Response times are written into the SLA: within one hour under the Maintenance model and within 30 minutes for critical incidents under Mission Critical 24/7. Tickets blocking production jump the queue.

What does taking over from a previous provider look like?

Inventory, handover of access credentials, verification of backups and licensing, filling documentation gaps, and finally switching on monitoring. It usually takes two to four weeks and requires no downtime.

What happens with passwords and documentation?

Everything remains the property of your company. We keep it in an encrypted password manager and hand it over on request - including when our cooperation ends.
